Teaching

Aside designing and making my own pieces, I have also been teaching jewellery making since 2018. I love this side of my work! I strongly believe that it makes me a better maker and I cherish the many questions that allow me to expand and grow my expertise.

I teach at Rachel Jeffrey Jewellery School in the picturesque Hertfordshire village of Wheathampstead. There, I teach regular day-time classes which usually run over 10 weeks. Currently, I teach these on Monday mornings (9.30am - 12 noon), Monday afternoons (12.30pm - 3pm) and Tuesday mornings (9.30am - 12 noon). Additional day and evening classes are available there too but these are taught by different tutors. Please see Rachel’s website for details.

I also teach jewellery making one-day taster classes there (normally on Fridays), as well as master classes, which take place over a whole weekend and focus on a particular topic or technique.

Please refer to Rachel’s website for further details and to book onto the classes. I dedicated my Blog Number 18 of July 2023 to teaching and you can view the Blog and video clip of my interview with Rachel here.

I will post here dates for up-coming workshops and you can of course get in touch with me or Rachel if you have further questions.

2025

  • A new 10 week course will be starting on 28th April at Rachel Jeffrey Jewellery in Wheathampstead, Hertfordshire.

The classes are mixed levels but complete beginners, intermediate or advanced students are welcome.

I start my teaching with a short demo on a theme of my choice, which will run over the duration of the 10 weeks. In the past such themes covered, earrings, necklaces, rings, beads etc. Students may wish to learn what was demonstrated but often have their own projects. I will guide complete beginners through a series of projects to build up their skills and support the more advanced students with whatever project they are working on.

I teach the following 3 classes there:

    Monday Morning: 9.30am-12 noon

    Monday Afternoon: 12.30pm-3pm

    Tuesday Morning: 9.30am-12 noon

There are a one or two spaces in each class (max 8). If you are interested and would like more information or would like to book onto one of these courses, please contact Rachel and her team directly by clicking here.

  • I am really excited to offer this brand-new course. It will take place at Rachel Jeffrey Jewellery in Wheathampstead, Hertfordshire. I designed this course with complete beginners in mind. It will give them a solid introduction to the main jewellery making techniques. Each technique will be demonstrated, then practiced on copper and a piece in silver will then be made.

There are a maximum of 8 spaces and each student will go home with a few completed pieces of jewellery in silver, various copper test pieces as well as detailed handouts, covering the techniques learned, which will serve as a future reference.

For more information or to book onto this course, please contact Rachel and her team directly by clicking here.

  • I am pleased to announce that I will be teaching another short course on jewellery mechanisms.

The course will cover a number of useful mechanisms such as a box clasp, simple hinges, and brooch mechanisms. This course is aimed at more advanced students as they will need to be confident in the basic jewellery making techniques, such as soldering and precise sawing and filing. As the course is fully packed with different projects it is assumed that some of the projects will be completed in the student’s own time. Detailed handouts will be given, which cover all the techniques and projects demonstrated, so that they can be finished at a later date should there not be enough time during the course.

  • I am super excited to be offering my Keum-Boo course at the amazing and beautiful West Dean College from 15-17 August 2025.

This course will teach how to attach 24 ct gold foil (13 microns) to silver. I use this technique extensively in my own work and it allows me to create gold patterns on a silver brackground.
