Interrupted Patterns, 2022 / 2023
Early in 2022 I started reading the many stories of ancient Greek Mythology. In the British Museum I then marvelled at the depiction of the Greek heroes on vases and other artefacts. I was fascinated by the patterns on the pottery chards I saw there and these were the inspiration behind this collection. I focussed on the broken up - or interrupted - patterns and in particular the leaf shape. The pieces of this collection show my playful re-imagination and arrangement of this simple pattern. Whilst some are repetitive flower shapes, other may be more abstract representations of leaves or even more reminiscent of wheat or barley corns.
In January 2022 I started writing a monthly blog about various interesting things connected to my work as a jeweller. In my 6th (June) blog I wrote more extensively about this collection. Blog 1 (January) and 2 (February) are also connected and may be of interest.
