Necklace with stripy pendant in recycled silver and gold
Necklace with stripy pendant in recycled silver and gold
This necklace is part of my Stripes collection. This series generally focused on the effect created by stripes, but was inspired by the idea of ‘the space between’.
The pieces in this series are made from recycled silver and recycled gold. (Read here more about the materials and processes involved in making this series.) This piece also links to my previous collection HDPE/HOPE by the re-use of HDPE plastic from a single-use bottle.
The 24ct gold foil is attached to the silver through a process called Keum-Boo – an ancient Korean technique of heat-bonding pure gold foil to silver.
Two re-used HDPE discs which have been made from a single-use plastic bottle are layered onto the pendant. The have been textured and riveted with tiny 18ct gold rivets onto the pendant.
The pendant is threaded onto 3 rows of flexible stainless steel spiral neck wire with a double-clip clasp. The neck wire was sourced from a company which produces this extremely flexible wire, which is made by winding a flat wire around a specially constructed centre. This ensures maximum protection against kinking of the wire.
The pendant is completely removable from the neck wire. This is due to UK hallmarking regulations.
Materials: Recycled sterling silver, recycled 24ct (fine) gold foil (13 microns thick), HDPE plastic. All jewellery is hand-made by myself in my workshop and all pieces are hallmarked at the London Assay Office.
Length of necklace: 42 cm.
