Silk braided and Argentium silver necklace.
Silk braided and Argentium silver necklace.
This unique necklace is part of my Autumn 2018 .
It is a completely unique, one-off piece and is made up from multiple Kumihimo silk braids in different shades of green. The silver is textured and the delicate chain elements are twisted and hardened to echo the spiral pattern of the silk braid. A pendant with a faceted Chrysoprase is suspended from one of the braids.
All parts of this necklace, including the silk braid, are made by myself in my studio. Kumihimo is a labour-intensive ancient Japanese technique for making silk braids. You can read here more about this technique. The braids featured in this necklace all have different structures and patterns, including a spiral braid.
The silver parts are textured and made from Argentium silver. The necklace is held together with a handmade silver hook clasp.
The silver parts are hallmarked at the London Assay Office.
Length of Necklace: 92 cm; Length of pendant: 40 mm
